Who Is TEMMIS?
TEMMIS is a newer post-punk and new-wave band from Tübingen. WENN du da bist is the quartets debut EP.
TEMMIS evoke the Neue Deutsche Welle vibe of the 1980s. For those unfamiliar with that term, it is a genre of German music derived from post-punk and new wave music, with other electronic influences. The term was first coined by DJ Frits Spits on the famous Dutch nationwide radio station Hilversum 3.
Winner of the HiFi Klubben band contest
Only a year ago, the members of TEMMIS had never released any songs nor really planned to make it big as a band. They loved making music and jumped at any opportunity to do just that.
When an offer came to support the band Lummerland on tour, the answer was an unequivocal yes. The six-week tour quickly changed the band’s mindset. More and more song sketches were written, demos recorded, and slowly but surely, the decision was made to try it seriously.
This is where the HiFi Klubben #amplified band contest comes into play. TEMMIS won against 150 bands, and the prize was studio recording time. This was the first professional release for the band, an EP, which has made a name for them.
Wenn Du Da Bist – EP
And voilà, here they are, less than a year after the band was founded, presenting their debut EP Wenn du da bist. The EP consists of three intense guitar-based post-punk songs with techno influences. It’s always something special when a band writes lyrics in German rather than English. They also never forgot their untamed passion for the live stage in the studio recordings, whose energy you can also feel on the EP in every track.
“Wenn Du Da Bist” Single and Sound
The EP title track “Wenn Du Da Bist” grabs ahold of you from the first second. It takes you on a journey into the 80s but mixes the new wave sound with pounding techno. TEMMIS adds even more to this atmospheric mixture by adding to that catchy lyrics.
The tracks are about love and being overwhelmed by it, about restlessness and unrest concerning one’s own life. These themes are also reflected on a musical level with fast, danceable beats and supernatural synths.
The EP encourages you to dance and makes your heart wistfully heavy due to the underlying emotions poured into the singing and sound. In their songs, TEMMIS gives the unique feeling of looking into the soul of their listeners and catching them in their musical arms. And now that TEMMIS has tasted blood, there’s a good chance that we’ll be hearing more of the four this year, both on the live stage and in the studio.
