A Place To Bury Strangers – See Through You – Album & Single

A Place To Bury Strangers – Single – “Let’s See Each Other”

Directed by Davy Pelletier

Known for their atmospheric wall-of-sound post-punk and shoegaze, APTBS delivers a personal love song about reuniting with those you care for.

Here’s how APTBS describes the song: “Syncopated memories and deconstructed fantasies of lovers lost in a city that doesn’t know their names. Fury and passion flutter through reverb, fuzz, and fog in this hazy romp through shattered fragments of a fleeting romance.”

The “Let’s See Each Other” video is a shadowy composition of effects over the band playing, with psychedelic kaleidoscopes reminiscent of their live performances. In keeping with that theme, the band says “Let’s See Each Other” is about reuniting with friends.

Let’s See Each Other Lyrics

Open your heart to me
Explore the fantasy
We’ve got a chance to be together
Let’s meet up late tonight
Indulge in pure delight
Syncopate our hearts to fiercely flutter
Let’s see each other
All the way
Let’s see each other
All the way
Enjoying dirty wine
Leaving our pasts behind
Exploring every inch together
Your stories make me laugh
Let’s take some photographs
Every touch sends another shudder
Let’s see each other
All the way
Now I know I’ll never be the same
As the night you screamed my name
There’s no way for us to be lovers
I still stare at that photograph
Every time I need to laugh
Reminisce that night we spent tethered
Let’s see each other
All the way
Let’s see each other
All the way

See Through You is the 6th album from A Place To Bury Strangers. Surpassing their previous wake of musical obliteration, the new record delivers the massive walls of sound and noise. See Through You is a journey that challenges a listener to psychedelic lunacy while also being the catchiest bunch of songs the band has released to date.

See Through You will be released on the band’s newly formed Dedstrange label on February 4, 2022.

A Place to Bury Strangers – History

The Early 2000s

David Goffan and Tim Gregorio formed A Place to Bury Strangers back in 2002. Shortly after that, now frontperson and guitarist Oliver Ackermann moved to New York City to join APTBS and become the primary songwriter, as Goffan departed.

Then Jason Weilmeister and Jonathan Smith joined when Gregorio left. That’s when they all decided to focus on perfecting the quality of their sound.

In 2006 they recorded three untitled EPs, each released in a single color, known as Red, Blue, and Green. Also, in 2016, the band gained recognition after their performance at Webster Hall with The Brian Jonestown Massacre. They then returned the following year to perform with The Jesus and Mary Chain.

Throughout these years, and thanks to their live performances, they won the title of “loudest band.” The New York Times also praised its resurgence “the ominous, feedback-drenched drones of the 1980s.”

A Place to Bury Strangers First Tour

In 2007, Jon Whitney of Killer Pimp Records wrote on a napkin the contract for his first release, his self-titled album A Place to Bury Strangers. In August 2007, the band gained national recognition after its favorable review in Pitchfork Media.

That same year, they joined the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club band’s “Holy Fuck” tour. 6 In April 2008, they announced that A Place to Bury Strangers would heel Nine Inch Nails at several of their concerts for their US tour.

The first UK release came in May 2008, after performing several concerts and garnering high praise from media outlets like NME and Kerrang. In November 2008, they returned to Europe, beating MGMT.

Exploding Head

At the beginning of 2009, A Place to Bury Strangers signed to Mute Records. The band also announces a new European tour and performances at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts, Seaport Music, Rock al Parque, and Siren Music festivals.

His second album, entitled Exploding Head, was released in October 2009. In early spring 2010, Jono MOFO leaves the band for personal reasons and is replaced by Dion Lunadon ( The D4 and The True Lovers ). On February 14, 2011, Ackermann announced that the band was working on their third album.

Worship

In May of 2012, the third album was announced, Worship. The album was scheduled for release on Dead Oceans and would come out later, June 26, 2012. The band announced plans to support the Worship release with a full North American tour in October.

The sound of Worship was described as a more worked rock, and Oliver Ackerman’s guitars are delicately loud, a great combination of noise with space rock, while still incorporating the band’s shoegaze roots.

In addition, on June of 2012, the band released an EP entitled “Onwars To The Wall” before releasing their new full-length.

On October 9 of 2012, the band also announced Robi Gonzalez as the new drummer, replacing Jay Space.

Strange Moon and Transfixiation

In early March 2013, A Place to Bury Strangers announced that they had recorded covers of songs by the Portland band Dead Moon for release on Record Store Day 2013 as an EP titled Strange Moon. 13 González decided to retire from touring. During the following 2016 tour, John Fedowitz (Skywave, Ceremony) played drums for the band.

Recording started for APTBS’s fourth album, Transfixation, in March 2013. The band recorded for several days at ABC Studios in Etne, Norway, with Emil Nikolaisen of Serena Maneesh. The album Transfixation was released on February 17, 2015, through Dead Oceans.

Pinned

In February of 2018, APTBS announced that Lia Simone Braswell would be the permanent replacement for González as the band’s drummer. Their fifth studio album, Pinned, was released on April 13, 2018.
